Monday way we again visited Novy Salas
and it was pointed out to us that the ruins of Slanec Castle could be seen from the village.
This Middle Age
castle dates from 13th century. It was captured by Hus's army in the 15th
century. In 1480 it was completely renovated but shortly after that, it was
destroyed by fire. The central tower was used as the family museum of Forgach
until 1945.
Jan's mother Emilia was a fantastic cook and she treated us to so many delicious
traditional Slovak foods. We walked through the village, visited briefly with
Jolana and Josef and promised to visited longer later in the day.

Jan, Jan's father, was kind enough to have the
caretakers open the church for us so we could view the inside of this beautiful
church. Jan explained to us that it is the custom there that the women sit on
the first floor while the men who attend Mass sit in the balcony.
We forgot our digital camera so the photos of this visit
will have to be scanned from 35mm pictures we took. We will add them as soon as
we can. Later we visited again Jolana and Jozef in Novy Salas along with
their daughters Angela, Maria and Jana. It was nice to finally meet relatives who
we've been writing to for the past few years.
