Wednesday on our way to the castle Krasna Horka we stopped at the Hungary - Slovakia border station in Hostovce were Peter, Jan's brother works. It was a fantastic visit as he gave us a VIP tour of the border station and we also got to see the two K-9s that they use there. On the way to and from the border station we were delighted to see the the ruins of Turna Castle, built in the middle of the 13th century.

We then had lunch at a very nice restaurant on the way to the castle Krasna Horka. We had halusky and pierogies (pirohy) in the outdoor eating area which also provided a view of Krasna Horka in the distance. After leaving and our being in a "Border Area" we were stopped briefly and checked by custom officials. but we have no photos of this.

Krasna Horka is a National Cultural Monument situated 8 km east of Roznava above the village Krasnohorske Podhradie. This gothic castle was built in 1318. Its main purpose was to protect rich mines and it was also an important castle on the way to the Spis region. The castle was owned the Bebek family and it became their main residence. After 1441 Jan Jiskra owned it and after 1556 it became the king's castle. In 1588 Peter Andrasi inherited it.

The touring of the castle was magnificent and afterwards we relaxed near the parking lot where there were refreshments and a few amusement rides for children.

The only negative experience during our entire visit to Slovakia was when at the end of Wednesday we stopped along the road to take a few pictures of United States Steel - Kosice. After snapping these two (zoomed) pictures U.S.S.'s plant guards started yelling and threatening us. Seems to us that the Pinkertons left Homestead in 1892 and they seem to have maybe found a new home. Once home I had to write a letter to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about this.
