The small party after 10 weeks of Slovak class

To prepare for our July 2005 trip to Slovakia,  Pam and I took Slovak language classes sponsored by the Western PA Slovak Cultural Society. The class was for 10 weeks and geared toward conversational tourist Slovak. The class was taught by Bozena Hilko, a "Slovenka" who moved here 11 years ago.

We will have additional information about the next classes and some phone numbers where you can receive additional information about Western PA Slovak Cultural Society and the language classes.

The classes we held at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library and the small party at the Koller Club in the Southside. 100 years ago this was where many Slovaks came to meet and learn the English Language.  Read about the Koller Club in this Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article of May 20, 2002.

Bozena was very informative telling us about the customs and culture of eastern Slovakia and what some of her memories and experiences were while growing up in eastern Slovakia. In the above pictures she is leading a Slovak dance.

After the 10 weeks of instruction we met so many very nice people. However, we are not really sure if Slovakia is ready enough to have these recent "graduates" descend upon them.  :) Good luck and our best to all the great people in this class!
